*Open call statement*
Temperature is not just a measure; it is the cosmic breath that shapes the universe. From the scorching furnaces of stars to the frozen expanses of interstellar space, temperature governs the very fabric of existence. It orchestrates the dance of particles, the rhythm of celestial bodies, and the delicate balance that sustains life.
As inhabitants of this cosmic symphony, we find ourselves entwined with temperature in myriad ways. It sculpts the landscapes we traverse, influences the foods we savour, and moulds the climate that defines our environment. Our bodies, intricate thermodynamic wonders, are attuned to the delicate equilibrium of temperature.
Yet, temperature is not merely a force of nature. It is entangled with political and critical dimensions. Climate change, driven by rising temperatures, poses an existential threat. The consequences ripple through ecosystems, economies, and societies, exposing inequalities and vulnerabilities.
Industries contribute to the temperature narrative, from the heat of production to the chilling consequences of environmental exploitation. The politics of temperature are woven into policy decisions, impacting nations and shaping global relations.
We invite artists working with illustration, comics, photography, and text to delve into the multifaceted realm of temperature. Reflect on the scientific, the personal, the political, and the critical. Consider the role of temperature in our universe, its impact on our lives, and its reverberations in society.
Create one work or a series that explores temperature in all its dimensions. All the works should be able to be produced in printed form on a Riso or Inkjet photo printer. There is no limit on the format and number of prints or pages (in case of zine) but the budget and time of production should be taken into consideration as it will inform the selection process.
The project is realised with the support of the National Culture Fund, Programme for Recovery and Development of Private Cultural Organisations.
